To activate TRON addresses in bulk, check which ones are inactive with a free API call, then activate up to 100 at a time through the TronSave activation API (1.5 TRX per inactive address), or paste them into the Bulk Buy tool on tronsave.io and click Activate Addresses (about 1.1 TRX each). Both skip addresses that are already active, so you only pay for the ones that need it. This guide covers when you need activation, what it costs, and how to run each method.
Key takeaways
- A new TRON address doesn’t exist on-chain until something activates it. Receiving USDT alone does not activate it; receiving TRX does.
- Inactive addresses can’t receive delegated energy and can’t move the USDT they hold until they are activated.
- Activating by hand costs about 1 TRX per address plus bandwidth, and one transaction each, which doesn’t scale.
- TronSave offers two bulk options: an API (up to 100 addresses per call) and the Bulk Buy tool (paste or CSV, then one click).
Who needs to activate addresses in bulk?
Anyone who creates TRON addresses faster than users fund them:
- Exchanges and custodians that issue a fresh deposit address per user.
- Payment processors and merchants generating one address per invoice.
- Payroll, airdrop and rewards tools paying many new recipients.
- Wallet apps that want new users to receive delegated energy on day one.
For a single wallet, see our beginner guide on how to activate a TRON wallet.
Why an inactive address is a problem
- No energy delegation. Energy can only be delegated to an account that exists, so you can’t pre-load a new deposit address with cheap rented energy.
- Stuck funds. An inactive address that has received USDT can’t send it anywhere until it is activated. That is what blocks sweeping deposit addresses into a hot wallet.
- Confusing balances. USDT sent to an inactive address arrives, but the address still shows as not activated until it receives TRX.
What activation costs on TRON
Creating an account burns a one-time 1 TRX creation fee, paid by whoever sends the first TRX. The transaction also needs bandwidth; if the sender has none left, about 0.1 TRX more is burned. In practice that is roughly 1.1 TRX per address, plus the work of sending one transaction per address and tracking which ones went through.
Method 1: the TronSave activation API (up to 100 per call)
Best for developers and anything automated. You need a TronSave API key and TRX in your internal account. See Authentication.
- Check the addresses (free, no API key). Send up to 100 addresses to Check Addresses. You get one code per address, in order:
0not activated,1contract,2activated,3invalid,4retry.POST https://api.tronsave.io/v0/helper/is-active-address-check Content-Type: application/json {"addresses": ["TXYZ...1", "TABC...2"]} - Top up your internal account with at least 1.5 TRX × the number of inactive addresses.
- Activate them. Send the same list to Activate Addresses with your API key. Active and duplicate addresses are skipped and not charged.
POST https://api.tronsave.io/v0/helper/multi-active-address apikey: YOUR_API_KEY Content-Type: application/json {"addresses": ["TXYZ...1", "TABC...2"]} - Confirm. Activation runs asynchronously. Call Check Addresses again until each address returns
2.
Both endpoints allow 5 requests per second, so a list of 1,000 addresses is ten calls.
Method 2: Bulk Buy on tronsave.io (no code)
Best for ops teams who also want to give the addresses energy.
- Open Bulk Buy and connect your wallet.
- Paste the receiver addresses or upload a CSV. Inactive addresses are flagged.
- Select the inactive ones and click Activate Addresses (about 1.1 TRX each).
- Pick the energy amount and duration and confirm one transaction for every receiver.
Method 3: send TRX yourself
For a handful of addresses, sending at least 1 TRX to each from a wallet with spare bandwidth activates them. Beyond a few dozen, the per-transaction work and tracking make the first two methods cheaper in practice.
Which method should you use?
| Method | Best for | Cost per inactive address | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activation API | Automated systems, exchanges, payment flows | 1.5 TRX | 100 per call, 5 calls/s |
| Bulk Buy tool | Ops teams that also buy energy for the addresses | ~1.1 TRX | Paste or CSV list |
| Send TRX manually | A few addresses | ~1–1.1 TRX + your time | One transaction each |
After activation: make the addresses cheap to use
Once the addresses are active they can receive delegated energy. Give them energy before they move USDT, and each transfer uses rented energy instead of burning about 6.4 TRX:
- For many addresses at once, use Fast Charge (API) or Bulk Buy (website).
- For one address at a time, see how to rent TRON energy.
Frequently asked questions
Does receiving USDT activate a TRON address?
No. A TRC-20 token like USDT can arrive at an inactive address, but the address only becomes active when it receives TRX (or when an account is created for it).
Can I activate a contract address?
No. Contract addresses already exist on-chain. The check endpoint returns 1 for them, and the activation endpoint doesn’t charge for them.
Is the activation fee refunded?
No. The network’s account creation fee is burned. TronSave only charges for addresses that actually needed activating.
How many addresses can I activate at once?
Up to 100 per API call, at 5 calls per second. Bulk Buy takes a pasted list or a CSV.
Do I need an API key to check addresses?
No. Checking is free and needs no key. Only activation requires an API key, because the fee comes from your internal account.
