Published October 29, 2026. Limits and parameters checked against TRON’s Stake 2.0 documentation and mainnet that day.
Short answer: most failed TRX unstakes come down to six causes: the TRX is delegated, you already have 32 unstakes pending, the amount does not match your Stake 2.0 balance, the address has no bandwidth or TRX for the transaction, the TRX is waiting to be withdrawn, or the wallet is multisig. Here is how to spot each one and fix it.
Quick diagnosis table
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Unstake rejected, though you can see staked TRX | That TRX’s resources are delegated to another address | Reclaim (undelegate) first, then unstake |
| Unstake rejected after several earlier unstakes | 32 unstakes already pending | Wait for one to finish its 14 days |
| Wallet error with an amount that “should” work | Mixed Stake 1.0 / 2.0 balance, or wrong amount | Unstake the exact Stake 2.0 amount from Tronscan |
| Transaction fails for lack of resources | No free bandwidth left and no TRX to burn | Add a little TRX to the address |
| 14 days passed, balance unchanged | The TRX was never withdrawn | Withdraw on Tronscan or in your wallet |
| Signature or permission error | Multisig or changed account permissions | Sign with the keys the active permission requires |
1. The TRX is delegated
Under Stake 2.0 you can delegate the energy or bandwidth of staked TRX to another address. While it is delegated, that TRX cannot be unstaked. Reclaim the delegation first. If you locked the delegation for a set period, you have to wait until the lock ends. Then unstake.
2. You hit the 32-unstake limit
An address can have at most 32 unstakes pending at once. This is a fixed protocol limit, not a parameter. Check how many slots are left with wallet/getavailableunfreezecount. When an older unstake finishes its 14 days, its slot frees up; you do not need to withdraw it first.
Tip: unstake larger amounts less often instead of many small ones.
3. The amount doesn’t match your Stake 2.0 balance
Addresses that staked before Stake 2.0 can hold two kinds of stake. Some wallets, Trust Wallet in particular, fail unless you unstake the exact Stake 2.0 amount first. Look it up on Tronscan, including decimals, and enter that exact number. Step-by-step: how to unstake TRX in Trust Wallet.
4. No bandwidth or TRX for the transaction
An unstake is a normal transaction and needs bandwidth. Every address gets 600 free bandwidth points a day, which is enough for an unstake. If you have used them up, for example by sending several transfers, the network burns TRX instead (1,000 sun per bandwidth point), and an address with zero TRX fails. Wait for the daily refill or add a little TRX.
5. The TRX finished unstaking but never arrived
After 14 days the TRX does not move to your balance by itself. You have to withdraw it (withdrawexpireunfreeze), which collects every finished unstake at once. Tronscan and most wallets show a withdraw button for it. Starting a new unstake also withdraws finished ones automatically. The full flow is in how to unstake TRX.
6. Multisig or changed permissions
If the address uses multisig, an unstake needs enough signatures to reach the active permission’s threshold, and that permission must allow the unstake operation. If the owner or active permission was handed to a service, your own key cannot unstake at all. One case is an address registered for TronSave Early Unstake; its payout and cancel rules are in the early unstake guide.
“I need the TRX now, not in 14 days”
That is not an error: the 14-day wait (chain parameter #70) applies to every address. Your options:
- Cancel the unstake if you would rather keep the stake.
- Early unstake if you need liquid TRX now and accept a 7–10% fee.
FAQ
How do I see my pending unstakes?
Search your address on Tronscan and open its Stake 2.0 details; each pending unstake shows its amount and unlock time.
Why did my energy disappear after unstaking?
Unstaked TRX stops producing resources immediately. If you still send USDT, rent energy instead; see how to rent TRON energy.
Can support speed up my unstake?
No wallet, exchange or support team can shorten the network’s pending period for your address.
